Strengthen the Seekers

There seems a recent upsurge (as I write this, November 2025) in young adults looking for the Lord, attending church for the first time (or after a long absence). Hurray! Some of the spiritual interest was apparently triggered by the late Charlie Kirk’s efforts. (And no, this isn’t about Charlie; it’s about seekers.) Here are some things for believers to keep in mind in order to better ensure that seekers we’re meeting will get on the Lord’s true path and stay there.

A. We longtime Christians need to be ready to answer seekers’ questions about Bible truth, hot topics, and more.

Can you answer “How do you know the Bible is true—and what about those lost gospels?” or “Why does a good God allow bad things to happen?” or “All religions are the same, aren’t they?” Can you reply adequately if a seeker comes with: “A ghost hunter on TV said…”? If not, then… ooh, can ya hear the Hebrews 5:12 scolding that we “ought to be teachers” by now? A number of sources on my “Recommended” page cut right to the chase on evidence related to tough questions, which can help us be able/confident to welcome chats with seekers.

B. We must be informed about Catholicism.

Why are so many seekers attracted to Catholicism? My studied opinion: (1) Maybe large, ornate cathedrals make us feel small, in a good way, enhancing the wonder of how “big” God is. Awe is good, so this attraction is understandable. (2) Perhaps Catholic practice seems more spiritual because of things like holy water, sacred relics, rosaries, etc. Naïve people (and those formerly in pagan/occult practice) can have a misunderstanding: that what seems sort of magical in those beliefs would be the same way the Lord operates. But so many Catholic practices lean into sorcery. And some foundational Catholic teaching is at odds with Scripture. See my “What Rome Teaches” document. This simple list will help you credibly discuss Roman Catholic belief/practice, in order to help seekers choose, instead, a strong-on-truth church.

C. We need to help seekers understand the dangers of the mystical/occult practices that are slipping into even conservative Christian material.

I’m talking about things like supposed secrets to “access the divine,” mantra meditation, expecting the Lord to speak/write to you. The concern about sorcery was ramped up because of an unfortunate scene I saw:  A TV news host was glad that young people are seeking the Lord. But the guest being interviewed—while sincere about helping young people—leans into mystical ideas. Apparently, back when the host had become pregnant, this guest had known (without being told) not only that this host was pregnant but also what gender the baby was. The host mistakenly assumes that the Holy Spirit gave this guest that psychic information. So any TV viewers who are seekers were steered to think of psychic revelations as something to go after, that this is how the Lord/the Holy Spirit works. (Such thinking also downplays the importance of Scripture.)

The above A, B, and C all mean that believers need to know and be strong in Bible truth, as well as being aware of teaching/practice that does not match Bible truth. So let’s study up. (You can site-search specific topics here, or find additional resources on the “More” page.)

Let’s see it as an honor—and also a responsibility—to help seekers quickly get on the Lord’s path, with the Bible as their source of truth. “The word of the Lord is flawless” (Psalm 18:30).

  1. Thanks for this! Even long-time Christians need to be reminded that the Bible is the living Word. It keeps teaching us throughout our lives, so that we may teach others. Study, learn, share.
